Steve Mahadeo

Steve L. Mahadeo, 68, of Glenview, Illinois, passed away on April 8, 2024. Steve was born on May 29, 1955, to Mahadeo Sookdeo and Lilawati Mahadeo in Guyana, South America. Steve met Trinidad (nee Rico) at the John Hancock building in downtown Chicago. Steve and Trinidad had four children, Viviana, Alejandra, Natalia and Steven. Steve loved watching the Chicago Bears and the Guyana Amazon Warriors, but he would watch any football game or cricket match on television. Yes, even the Jets and Browns. He enjoyed taking family vacations in the car as long as a bed could be made in the back. He often told the story of how he and Trinidad could drive from Chicago to New York and back, without ever turning on the radio. Steve often reminisced about the family trips to Mexico, but loathed driving through the mountains. Steve drove his way west to California, south to Mexico and Florida, east to New York and north as far as Winnipeg. He loved the open road, but not city traffic. Steve also flew to visit new destinations outside of North America. He was no stranger to Caribbean beaches and once made a “day trip” out of a 36-hour roundtrip flight to India, as only he could. His favorite flights, however, were back to the home country. Steve picked up golf later in life and truly was at peace on the course on a hot, sunny day with beer in the cooler shooting the breeze with the guys. He appreciated anything outdoors and would use any excuse to be outside, especially around a fire pit, but only as long as the temperature never dropped below a frigid 75 degrees. Then, it became “long john’s weather”. Steve became a dog lover and loved being surrounded by granddogs. He would sneak them one treat or seven - there was no in-between. Steve was also especially fond of Halloween and Easter because it meant the revered “Grandpa tax”. If you didn’t know about the “Grandpa tax”, you didn’t truly know Steve. Steve spent his retirement watching football and cricket, working on countless projects and repairs (there wasn’t anything he couldn’t fix except perhaps some garage siding), doing crossword puzzles, hanging out with his granddogs and eating ice cream with his grandchildren. Steve passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family. He was predeceased by his parents, Mahadeo and Lilawati. He is survived by his wife, Trinidad, his children, Viviana (James Chapman), Alejandra, Natalia (Brian Bentrup) and Steven, and his grandchildren, Isabella Chapman, Julia Chapman, Andrew Chapman, Jude Chapman, Sofia Bentrup and Brady Bentrup. Services will be held at Matz Funeral Home, 410 E Rand Rd., Mt. Prospect, IL 60056 on April 17, 2024, from 10am- 12pm.
