Sonya Whang

Sonya Whang (née Young Ryn Bang), a devoted and caring mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 29, 2025. She was 83 years old. She was the fourth child born to Sung Il Bang and Sun Ah Lee in Busan, Korea, on January 29, 1942. Her adoring siblings were Young Bok, Young Taek, Young Soon, and Young Hoon. She attended Busan Women’s University, later marrying June Chun Whang and emigrating to the United States in 1970. They settled in suburban Chicago, Illinois, where they raised two children. She is survived by them: Brian Whang and Monica “Tommy” Whang; son-in-law, Peter Konopinski; and granddaughter, Virginia Whang. A devout Christian from childhood, Sonya found immense joy and purpose in meditating on her faith and in spreading its message widely. She lived humbly and chose to direct her resources and energies toward helping others. Perhaps her only extravagance was in giving generously to her family. A funeral service will be held on Friday, June 6, 2025, at Matz Mt. Prospect Funeral Chapel, 410 E. Rand Road, Mount Prospect, IL 60056. Viewing will start at 5 pm with service at 6:10 pm. Kedzie Avenue, Chicago, IL 60625, https://www.hanulusa.org/ 헌신적이고 자상한 어머니이자 할머니였던 황선해권사님깨서 2025년 5월 29일 목요일 향년 83세로 평화롭게 세상을 떠나셨습니다. 그녀는 1942년 1월 29일 부산에서 방성 씨와 이선아씨의 넷째 자녀로 태어났습니다. 자매 형제로는 영복, 영택,영군 그리고 영훈있으며, 부산 여자 대학교를 졸업후 1970년 황준춘씨와 결혼하여 미국 시카고 교외에 정착하여 두 자녀를 두었습니다. 유가족으로는 브라이언, 모니카 "토미", 그리고 사위 코노핀스키 피터, 손녀 버지니아가 있습니다. 소냐(황선해)권사님은 어린시절부터 독실한 기독교신자이며 항상 묵상하고 기도하며 그 메세지를 널리 알리는데서 큰 기쁨과 목적을 발견하셨습니다. 그녀는 겸손하게 살았고, 자신의 자원과 에너지를 다른사람들을 돕는데 쏟았습니다. 아마도 그녀의 유일한 사치는 가족에게 아낌없이 베푸는 것이었을 겁니다. 천국환송예배 일시: 2025년 6월 6일 (금) 오후 6시 10분 장소: Matz Funeral Home, 410 E Rand Rd, Mt.
