Sharon Shin

Sharon Insun Shin, 68, of Glenview, passed away on Wednesday August 2, 2023 after a 10-month battle with pancreatic cancer. She was surrounded by her entire family when she departed, with great heartbreak on earth, but with far greater rejoicing in heaven. Born on February 15, 1955, Sharon was the fourth daughter of father Kyung Choi and mother Lim Gil Soon. She graduated from Melboldin Girls’ High School in Gunsan, North Jeolla Province. Sharon married her husband, Paul Dong Chun Shin, in 1980. Together for the past 43 years, Sharon and Paul were first introduced by Sharon’s eldest sister Choi Seung Ja. Sharon was charmed by Paul’s jovial nature and his penchant to showcase his singing with the latest American pop song. Having established a successful business producing fire extinguishers in Seoul, they yearned to test their business mettle abroad. They were the first and only family to accept the invitation of her sister Seung Hui Choi and her husband Donald Gordon and immigrated to the United States in 1982. Sharon was a successful entrepreneur and took pride in offering exceptional customer service to her patrons. While she made achieving success look easy, she sowed hours into mastering her craft as a seamstress. Even as the dust from the clothes triggered her allergy symptoms, she powered on, pressed by a customer’s deadline. Sharon enjoyed regaling friends and family with stories of how she made first-time customers into regulars. She treated her customers like old friends. When they switched to a computer system, she memorized customers’ phone numbers so that their account was up as soon as customers entered the store. She knew their children’s names, their occupations, their retirement plans. She noted their preferences and earned their smiles and loyalty in return. Sharon mastered the concept of human connections and cultivated friendships. Together, with Paul, Sharon operated numerous successful dry-cleaning establishments and restaurants throughout the Chicagoland area. Sharon faithfully attended the Chicago Assembly of God church for 40 years after joining in 1983. She graced many stages with her vibrant outfits as an active member of the Hepzibah Dance Team. Supremely gifted at welcoming people into her church community, she strove to make each person feel deeply loved. Wherever she went, she brought laughs and incredible joy. She loved serving as the greeter at her church. She could make anyone feel at home. She was the incomparable mother to Christina Yisoo Kim (née Shin), David Shin, J.D., and Daniel Shin, CPA. She was the immensely proud and doting mother-in-law to Alex Kim, Esther Shin, and Lena Shin. She cherished her 8 grandchildren: Joshua (12), Jonathan (10), Jeremy (7), Joelle (6), Joyful (6), Matthew (3), Noelle (1), and Jubilee (1). She is preceded in death by her oldest sister Choi Seung Ja and is survived by her older sisters Seung Hui Gordon (with husband Donald,) Yoon Nam Choi, and younger brother Geun Mahn Choi. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Korean American Scholarship Foundation at https://www.kasf.org/donate/ with "MWRC" as the designation, and “Sharon Shin Scholarship” in the honorarium field. _____________________________________ 고 Sharon Shin(신 인선)성도님은 1955년 2월 15일 아버지 최 경씨와 어머니 임정옥씨 슬하에 1남 4녀중 넷째 딸로 출생 하셨으며, 전북 군산시 멜볼딘 여고를 졸업 하셨습니다. 1980년도에 신 동춘씨와 결혼 후 1982년 10월에 도미 하셨고 슬하에 2남 1녀를 두셨습니다. 미국으로 오셔서 하나님의 성회 시카고 교회를 섬기셨고 1983년에 시카고 교회에 정식 교인으로 등록 하셨습니다, 3년 후인 1986년에 세례를 받으시고, 2008년에는 권사 임직을 하셨습니다. 올해로 하나님의 성회 시카고 교회를 섬기신 지 40년이 되었습니다. 그 오랜 세월 동안 많은 곳에서 하나님을 사랑하고 성도님들을 사랑하며 열심을 다해 섬기셨습니다. 성가대에서 25년 활동 하셨고, 그 후에 휍시바 몸 찬양팀으로 열심히 활동 하셨습니다. 구역장으로도 섬기시면서 구역 식구들을 기도와 헌신과 사랑으로 이끄셨습니다. 필리핀으로 단기 선교 활동을 하시면서열정적으로 하나님의 사랑과 복음을 전하셨습니다. 주일 아침에는 늘 활짝 웃는 얼굴과 상냥함으로 성도들을 반갑게 맞이해 주시고 주보를 건네 주셨고 예배의 자리로 인도해 주셨습니다. 신인선 권사님은 모든 사람을 귀하게 여겨주셨고 늘 정중한 태도로 대하셨습니다. 또한 온 삶을 통해 늘 전도에 힘쓰시는 삶을 사셨습니다. 2022년 10월에 원치 않는 암투병이 시작이 되었습니다. 하지만 투병 가운데에서도 아름다운 모습이 한번도 흐트러진적이 없으셨습니다. 마지막 남은 호흡까지 끝까지 힘을 다해 하나님을 사모하고 가족과 교회를 사랑하시다가 2023년 8월 2일 항년 68세로 하나님의 부르심을 받았습니다. 꽃 대신 https://www.kasf.org/donate/에서 "MWRC"를 지정하고 명예 분야에서 "Sharon Shin 장학금" 으로 한미 장학금 재단에 기부하는 것을 고려하십시오.
