Mary Jo Menelle

Mary Jo Menelle, a beacon of love and care in her community, passed away peacefully on December 2, 2025, in Mt Prospect, Illinois, completing a life rich with devotion to her family, her faith, and her profession. Born on March 23, 1933, in Lincoln, Nebraska, Mary Jo carried the warmth of her hometown with her throughout her life. As a young woman, Mary Jo ventured to Chicago, where she followed her calling to become a registered nurse. Her nurturing spirit found a home at Holy Family Hospital, where patients and colleagues alike were touched by her kindness. It was during her tenure at the VA hospital where she met Donald, the love of her life. Together, they built a life founded on mutual respect and joy. Mary Jo's legacy is lovingly carried forward by her family, including her cherished son, Micheal (Cindy) Menelle, as well as her adored grandchildren, Matt (Nicole) Menelle, Tori (Jarrett) Austin, Becky Menelle. She was also a beloved great-grandmother to Parker Menelle, and Jeremiah, Iversyn, and Elijah Austin. Her love extended beyond her immediate family, touching the lives of many within the Grace Lutheran Church, where she served with the same compassion that marked her professional life. An avid sports fan, Mary Jo could be found in the stands at her grandchildren's sporting events more often than not, cheering the loudest and beaming with pride. Her interests also included a cherished collection of books, and the tennis courts where she played with grace and agility. Mary Jo was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Donald, her caring parents, Josephine and Ralph Chappell, and her dear siblings, Ruth Maupin, Jean Poole, and Douglas Chappell. For those who wish to pay their respects, a visitation will be from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Tuesday, December 9th, 2025 at Matz Mt. Prospect Funeral Chapel on 410 E. Rand Rd., Mt. Prospect, Illinois 60056. The funeral service will be 10:30 AM on Wednesday, December 10th, 2025 at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1624 E. Euclid Ave. Mt. Prospect, Illinois 60056. Immediately following the service, a procession will lead to Memory Gardens Cemetery 2501 E. Euclid Ave. Arlington Heights, Illinois 60004 where the commital service will be conducted at the cemetery graveside. Please make any donations out to Grace Lutheran Church.
