Paul S. Kertay
May 2, 1946 - May 10, 2018
Paul Kertay, husband of Joan (Ryan), died peacefully on May 10, 2018 at Journey Care Bowman Center at Rush Medical. There are so many descriptors for Paul: Artist, Golfer, Photographer, Fisherman, Mathematician, Son, Brother, Son-in Law, Uncle, Cousin, Friend and Husband but to all he was always a Teacher. Paul taught math for many years and his passion was statistics and probability, which he taught with a knack for making it practical and sensible. We never know when we experience the last kiss, the last hug,the last communication with someone we love. Let us remember what Paul taught all of us: Treasure the people who are in your life, disagree but with respect, celebrate your differences and live with no regrets. Paul touched the hearts of so many people in a quiet, simple, profound way. Paul lived life fully in the present, he laughed and enjoyed the simple things, he didn't wait to be asked to do something for someone, he just did it. Integrity and honesty were his standards, and he found peace in the beauty of nature. Paul was born in Linz, Austria on May 2, 1946 to the late Bela and Irene Kertay. Paul and Joan married on January 25, 1969. He will be missed by his family: Pat (Jerry) Greenwald, Marie (Bill Blunk), Les (Maddie) Kertay, Michael (Mary) Ryan, Tim (Dottie) Ryan, Peggy (Bill) Schretter, Mary (Tom) Komosa and Chris Ryan. Paul was the loving uncle of Peter Greenwald, Todd (Tara) Greenwald, Kelly (Matt) Teich, Dan Ryan, Nick (Jennifer) Schretter, John Komosa ,Al Komosa, Rich (Bridget) Blunk, Doug (Karen) Blunk, Samuel Kertay and Gregory Kertay, great uncle to several nephews and nieces and loyal friend to so many people. Paul made this world a better place, he made a difference and we have been changed for the better because we knew him. He will be missed by all of us but Paul's legacy will continue and his spirit will live on in those who knew him. In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to a scholarship fund in Paul's memory which is currently being established and the details will be available soon.
