Joan M. Steiner Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Joan M Steiner, a 25-year resident of Arlington Heights passed away peacefully surrounded by a loving circle of family and friends on December 29, 2016 at Alden Poplar Creek in Hoffman Estates, IL. She was born October 28, 1937 in Racine, WI, the youngest daughter of Frank and Pauline Steiner. She is predeceased by her parents, brothers and all but one dear sister, Dorothy Rogers of Arlington Heights. Joan is also survived by her daughter, Nancy Koeper, several cousins, numerous nieces and nephews as well as great (and great-great) nieces and nephews. She will be sorely missed by great-great nephew, Justin Szymanski, to whom she was simply JoJo while being his caretaker, confidant and best friend. Although she held a wide variety of different jobs in her life, the one the family found most interesting was her stint as a professional blackjack dealer in Reno, NV, and the one she held with greatest pride was as a department manager with Target Corporation. However, those who knew Joanie best would think of her not in terms of the jobs she held but in the display of her other gifts which include these: cookie baker, walking partner, gift giver, card player, chocolate lover, clothes ironer and repairer, social gathering cleaner-upper, novel reader, bargain shopper extraordinaire, Cubbie fan, caregiver, baby lover, puzzle solver and did we say Cubs fan? She will be dearly missed by her family, friends and community with whom she shared experience, strength and hope and who now commit to loving and serving in her memory and honor. Visitation will be Saturday, January 7, 2017 at 1pm until the service at 3pm at Matz Funeral Home, 410 East Rand Rd. Mount Prospect, IL. Interment will be private and at a future date. In lieu of flowers donations are requested to The American Cancer Society.
