Daniel F. Basile

September 8, 1924 - November 6, 2018

It is with great sadness that the family of Daniel F. Basile announces his passing on Nov. 6, 2018 at the age of 94 years. Daniel was born in Chicago, IL and resided in Vernon Hills, IL. Daniel will be lovingly remembered by his wife Virginia “Ginny” (nee Drewke), his wife of 49 years, married January 25, 1969; his children Evelyn Basile and Christine (Ricky) Jackson; and his brother Louis (Jodell). Daniel’s memory will also be carried in the hearts of his numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and dear friends. Daniel was preceded in death by his mother Adeline Basile (nee Vivaqua); and sister Marie Malaby. Daniel served our country in World War II as Private First Class where he bravely fought from the shores of Normandy to the Battle of the Bulge, earning nine medals including the Bronze Star, Silver Star, and Purple Heart. In 2004, Daniel was honored in France on the 60th Anniversary of his participation in the D-Day invasion. In 2011, Daniel was thrilled to be recognized for his service at a Chicago Blackhawks game. Finally, in 2014, at a special ceremony at the Addison VFW Hall, Daniel was formally presented the medals he earned in WWII. Daniel loved to laugh and was happiest on the golf course or at the bowling alley. Daniel also enjoyed tending to his beautiful roses in his garden, and making spaghetti and meatballs for the family. Daniel retired from his position as Lab Tech from Northrop Corporation after 40 years of employment. Visitation at Matz Funeral Home, 410 E. Rand Road, Mount Prospect, IL (847-394- 2336), Thursday, Nov. 15, 2018 from 3-8 p.m. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, at 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home followed by Military Honors at Ridgewood Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations to Honor Flight Chicago would be appreciated.
