Susan M. Buss

Susan (Murray) Buss, 74, of Mt. Prospect, IL passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, August 22, 2018, after a 4 1/2-year courageous battle with breast cancer. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 27, 2018 followed by a Homegoing Service at 11:00 a.m at the Matz Funeral Home, 410 E. Rand Rd., Mt. Prospect, IL. Interment following the service at Ridgewood Memorial Park. Sue was born on April 3, 1944, in Oak Park, IL to Bryce and Mina (Wood) Murray. She graduated from Carl Shurz High School in 1961 and Northern Illinois University in Dekalb, IL in 1965 with a degree in elementary education. Sue was a gifted teacher and taught for many years in the Palatine school district. She married Leonard A. Buss on May 27, 1972, and they created a loving home for their son, Darren Andrew Buss. She attended the Edgebrook Evangelical Free Church (now Park Community Church Edgebrook) from the age of nine and was an active and faithful member all of her adult life. She served on the board in various capacities including as head of Women's Ministries, was a dedicated Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher and served on many committees where she made significant contributions to the church. She was also a longstanding member of the Garden Club of Mt. Prospect where she held a number of offices and enjoyed using her artistic and creative abilities. Sue was a gracious and generous lady with a kind and gentle spirit and strong faith. She liked to travel and her home reflected her interest in the Southwest and Native American Indian culture and artifacts. Sue will be remembered for giving carefully chosen and unique gifts, her love of children and for being a faithful follower of Jesus. She not only knew her Bible well but she lived it. Sue was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Craig Murray. She is survived by her husband Leonard and son Darren (Stephanie), brother Colin Murray (Kimberly), extended family and many friends. She will be very much missed by all who knew her.
