Robert O'Malley

Bob O’Malley, 70, of Des Plaines, Illinois died peacefully with his family and friends by his side on February 6th, 2023 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on May 29, 1952 in Chicago, Illinois. He graduated from Loyola Academy (‘70), attended John Carroll University and graduated from Loyola University (‘75), and later earned a degree from North Eastern University (‘12). He was a member of the Teamsters Union (local 710) and drove a truck for Old Style and later Jewel until he retired at 69. Bob enjoyed traveling and trying new things. He was an avid sports fan who played rugby and ran 3 marathons in his late 50s and early 60s. He was obsessed with movies and music. Most of all, he loved sharing a good vodka martini with a twist and blue cheese olives in the company of his family and friends. Bob was a friend to everyone he met. He always maintained a positive attitude and had an amazing sense of humor, keeping those around him laughing through it all. He was determined to live his life normally despite his cancer. He fought valiantly for as long and hard as he could, often shouldering his pain and in private for the consideration of others. His loving family and loyal friends deeply cherished and admired him, and he will be dearly missed and forever remain in our hearts. He is survived by his wife Sophie O’Malley (Guziak); his children, Ron O'Malley (Karolina), Medea O'Malley(Dima Khimchak), Nancy O'Malley (Andy Mack); his grandchildren, Olivia O'Malley, Carter O'Malley, Billy O'Malley, Lily Khimchak and Ashton Khimchak; his sister Carol Barcheski (Larry) and his brother Craig Pease (Tracy). He was also loved by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert Austin O’Malley and Margaret O’Malley and his grandson Aiden O’Malley.
