Joy B. Joseph

Joy B. Joseph, beloved wife of late husband, Ludwig “Lou” Joseph, passed away on November 23, 2022. She was the loving mother of Margaret, Suzanne (Tim) Corr, Christine (John) Forssander, Debora, Karen (the late Michael) Heaver, Tricia (John) Dzienis, Thomas (Jennifer) Joseph; MaryKate (Craig) Elias; Cherished Grandmother of Dianna, James (Simone), Nicole (Ken), Maggie (Kellen), Anthony(Amy), Christopher, Michelle, Shannon, Olivia, Emma, Andrew, Jack; Great Grandmother of David, Rowen, Frances; Dear sister of Eleanor and the late Margaret Anne. Joy was born September 6, 1932, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She was raised in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Upon marrying Lou, a Medical Media Specialist, they relocated to Des Plaines, Illinois where they raised their eight children. Upon Lou’s passing in 1997, she moved to Palatine, Illinois. In addition to her focus on her family, Joy was a Playwright, Director, Actress, Drama Coach, Newspaper Columnist, Author, Women’s Club President, Business Manager, Liturgy Coordinator. Joy held the positions of Business Manager and Liturgy Coordinator for St. Stephen Protomartyr Church in Des Plaines for 27 years. She was a Past President of the St. Stephen’s Rosary Altar Society. Joy was also a correspondent for the Des Plaines Suburban Times, hosting a column “The Chatterbox” for several years. Her love of the theatre included the founding of the theatre group, The Gaslite Players, writing, producing, sometime starring, and directing musical revues and plays for local entertainment and fundraising for St. Stephen’s for over 28 years. She had also coached drama for the students at St. Stephen School, providing Christmas and Graduations plays for over 25 years. Joy’s first public appearance was at age five on the “Daddy Dave Amateur Hour” in New Jersey where she studied acting and dance for many years. Joy was proud of her Irish heritage and her New Jersey roots. Joy loved going to the Jersey Shore. She loved to golf. Much gratitude to Wayne Dean, her dear friend, who brought her much happiness and companionship in her later years. Wake services for Joy B. Joseph will be held on Thursday, December 1, 2022, from 3-8 pm at Matz Funeral Chapel in Mt. Prospect. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Stephen Church on Friday, December 2, 2022, at 10 am.
