Helen E. LaScola

Helen Ella LaScola, 97, died peacefully surrounded by her family, at her son Joe’s house on March 25, 2023. Helen was most proud of her employment at Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, Illinois for over 40 years in the Food Service Department where she made specialized tube feedings for the sick. She married the love of her life, Samuel J. LaScola, and was happily married for over 40 years. She raised four children: Nancy, Robert, Richard, and Joe. Some of our fondest memories include talking about her beloved Chicago Cubbies and Chicago Blackhawks. She would call her grandson, Steven, after every Cubs game and either laugh or complain about the game. She would, as we all know, be fair to everyone and catch up on the Chicago White Sox for her grandson, Sam. She leaves behind her beloved son Joey and his wife Lynne who she called her “Angel from God with Wings”. Grandma, as she was known, is survived by nine grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. She was the mother-in-law to John Siemieniec (Nancy), Rose LaScola (Robert) and Pat LaScola (Richard). She also leaves behind her sister Wilma Olund, the last remaining sibling of 15 children. She was revered as a special aunt to many. She is preceded in death by her husband; Samuel, daughter; Nancy Siemieniec, sons; Robert and Richard LaScola, and thirteen brothers and sisters. A wake will be held on Sunday, April 2, 2023 from 3pm-8pm at Matz Mt. Prospect Funeral Chapel located at 410 E. Rand Rd, Mt. Prospect, IL 60056. A funeral mass will be held on Monday, April 3, 2023 at 10:30am at St. Thomas Becket Church located at 1321 N Burning Bush Ln, Mt. Prospect, IL 60056 with interment to follow at All Saints Catholic Cemetery located at 700 N River Rd, Des Plaines, IL 60016. For those who are unable to attend the service, please feel free to join via live stream May the hugs we all shared never be forgotten or felt when we close our eyes. We all know you’re with your beloved Sam and the children that went before you. Mom, I’ll miss our daily calls but we will talk often and I know if I say or do something you wouldn’t like I’ll close my eyes and see you wave your right fist at me. - Joe
