Dolores L. Myers

Dolores L. Myers (née Sharples), age 94, passed away on May 3, 2024, in Wheeling, Illinois. She was a proud parent to Thomas A. Myers (Mary Patzke), an Attorney, Tedson L.Myers (Charmaine), a Certified Public Accountant, and Susan J. Cheslog (Robert), a Collections Analyst; grandmother to Kristen F. Marchand (née Myers), Justin T. Myers (Melissa Krchma), and Eric A. Cheslog; and great grandmother to Julianne and Matthew Marchand and Georgiana Myers. Dolores was preceded in death by her loving husband,Jesse L. Myers, a carpenter, her brothers Robert, Vernon, Eugene, William and John Sharples, her sister, Marion Way, and her son Thomas’ first wife, Frances (née Manno). Dolores came of age in the 1940s and, along with her husband, formed their family during America’s post war building boom. At that time housing was very limited and she often told her children with a smile on her face,“Your father and I rented a one-bedroom apartment that shared a bathroom with another family, and we were glad to have it.” She loved unconditionally and encouraged and supported her childrens’ dreams and ambitions. A survivor of the Great Depression, she endured the many hardships it caused and learned the value of working together to address them with her parents’ and siblings. She was a survivor who understood personal hardship and was never one to accept disappointment. She taught her children the value of perseverance, commitment and self-sufficiency and to never give up on themselves. A passionate baker, Dolores loved preparing holiday breads, cakes, cookies and pies, many from recipes brought to this country from Norway by her grandparents. Dolores loved spending time with her children and grandchildren and sharing lessons with them. She was an avid gardener, bringing to life beautiful flowers and a well-manicured lawn. Dolores also loved sewing, a skill she taught her daughter Susan. Dolores, an avid traveler, enjoyed wonderful trips with her husband and children. Dolores was born in Chicago, Illinois, and grew up in its Moreland neighborhood. Her maternal grandparents, first generation emigrants from Oslo, Norway, attended Chicago’s Moreland Lutheran Church along with Dolores who was baptized and confirmed there. She graduated from Austin High School and built high school friendships that lasted most of her life. She remained close with her brothers and sister throughout their lives. She loved her family dearly and, in turn, they treasured her. Her spirit will be with us always. God Bless you dearest mother, you will be missed. Visitation and Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at Matz Mt. Propect Funeral Chapel, 410 E. Rand Road, Mt. Prospect, IL 60056, followed with internment thereafter at Memory Gardens Cemetery, 2501 E. Euclid Ave, Arlington Heights, IL 60004
