Obituary for Catherine Rita Gilgenbach Catherine Rita Gilgenbach, a beloved mother, devoted caregiver, and treasured member of the Glendale Heights community, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2024, at the age of 75. Born Catherine Rita Tolan, she was the loving wife of Kurt Gilgenbach for nearly 43 wonderful years. Catherine was the proud and loving mother of four children: Michael, Erin, Lynda, and Laura. She dedicated her life to raising her family in Glendale Heights while pursuing a rewarding career as a teacher in Chicago's Catholic schools, including St. Mary and St. Priscilla's. After her retirement, she continued to inspire young minds at Tutor Time, embodying her passion for education and children. In her free time, Catherine found joy in playing Bingo and penny slots, a love she enthusiastically shared with her children. She cherished moments spent with her family, often enjoying dinners at local restaurants. As an avid reader, she particularly enjoyed murder mysteries, immersing herself in their intricate plots. Known for her boundless generosity and selflessness, Catherine was the ultimate provider and caretaker. She played a significant role in raising not only her own children but also the children in her neighborhood and her children's friends. She spent the majority of her paycheck on her students and children, a practice she continued when she was blessed with grandchildren. Described by her children as "the best mom," Catherine was thoughtful, kind, and generous to a fault—qualities everyone should strive to embody. Her legacy of love, care, and compassion will be remembered by all who knew her. Catherine is survived by her devoted husband, Kurt Gilgenbach; her children, Michael Gilgenbach, Erin Gilgenbach, Lynda (Steve) Chlebek, and Laura (Eddie) Loconte; her grandchildren, Martino, Danny, Arianna, and Elle; and her cherished canine companions, Schatzi and Lucy, who were her best friends. She is also survived by many other family members and friends who will miss her dearly. Visitation for Catherine will be held at Matz Funeral Chapel on Sunday from 3 PM until 7 PM, with a Funeral Mass at St. Matthew's on Monday, July 16, 2024, at 10 AM. Burial will take place privately at a later date at All Saints. Catherine's generous spirit and loving nature will continue to inspire and guide those she left behind. She will be deeply missed, but her legacy will live on through the many lives she touched
