Irene E Hendricks

Irene E. Hendricks, 94, of Mount Prospect, passed away on Thursday, July 21, 2022. She was born on September 15, 1927 in Chicago to John and Emma (Deli) Schmidt. Irene was the devoted wife of Patrick Hendricks. As Irene told it, the couple met at a wedding that they attended with other people, and left with each other. They were married on June 12, 1948 at St. Edwards, and the couple spent 74 wonderful years together, raising four children. The couple enjoyed taking their family on vacations to visit relatives all over the country. The two moved around as the kids grew up. They went to California in 1983, then moved to Michigan in 1985, and back to Chicago in 1992. True to her caring nature, Irene was a Certified Nursing Assistant, and worked at Holy Family Hospital for ten years. In her spare time, she was very crafty, and enjoyed making lampshades and Christmas ornaments. Irene was a great pen pal, and enjoyed writing letters to friends and family. She loved to cook and bake, and was famous for her oatmeal cookies. To this day, even those with the recipe struggle to recreate them. She was also deeply religious, and was a longtime parishioner of St. Alphonsus Ligouri Catholic Church. Her neighbors all called her Sister Bertrille, after Sally Field’s character from “The Flying Nun.” Her family called her “Queenie,” as she was the matriarch of the family and a true queen to them all. She cared a lot about her family and absolutely loved being a grandma to her twenty grand and great-grandchildren. Irene made it a point to tell her family, “I love you more.” She was a wonderful, beautiful, and loving soul, who will be deeply missed. Irene is survived by her husband, Patrick; children, Cynthia (Ronald) Armstrong, Patricia (Richard) Radzak, Tim (Sharon) Hendricks, and Kathy (Tim) McKenna; grandchildren, Matthew, Karan (Jason), Becca (Andy) Stollfuss, Robin, Kimberly (Brian) Guerre, Nicholas, Kelly (Trey) Morse, Timmy (Brie Ann), Joseph, Shannon, and Christine; great-grandchildren, Michael, Patrick, Claire, Hannah, Grace Irene, Liam, Gianna, and Timothy; and her loving cousin, Helen Doering. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her siblings, Anna, Frank, Otto, and John. A Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 26, 2022 at St. Alphonsus Ligouri Catholic Church, 411 N Wheeling Road, Prospect Heights, from 12-1pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held immediately following visitation. Entombment will follow at All Saints Cemetery, 700 N River Road, Des Plaines.
